Best seasons for Himlung Himal Climb:

The best time for this long and wonderful adventure is in the spring and autumn seasons, from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months.

Springtime from March to May will be much lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the magnolia and rhododendrons the national flower of Nepal.

March to May fine clear day most of the time, with longer sun-light hours but can get overcast in the late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes on high altitude areas as well on passes. Autumn / Falls another best time for this trek with a fine clear day for views and walks. Days are shorter due to sun-light hours, morning, late afternoon, and nighttime temperatures drop to freezing cold around the higher region with the bright starry night sky, chances of snow on trails as well on climb.

Religion and Culture:

North Mid-West Nepal around Manang districts populated by Manang people the mountain tribes. On this trek beyond Dharapani village, coming across rows of prayer walls, spinning and wheeled prayer with Buddhist stupas, where walking clockwise will be the right way to respect the local culture as well visit interesting monasteries.

Overview

Himlung Himal is one of least visited and climbed, where only a few mountaineering expeditions seldom venture for a great climb to the summit.

 

Himlung Himal at 7,126 m / 23,380 feet high, located around Phu valley around the hidden corners of Manang district. The mountain is situated close to Manaslu Himalaya towards the east direction near the high Larke-La Pass.

 

Himlung Himal Climbing, due to its remote location few groups of mountaineers often dares for the climb. Which leads to high technical difficulties of D+/4 grade, but an enjoyable mountain to climb of great endurance.

 

The scenery around Himlung Himal Climbing is breathtaking overlooking Annapurna and Manaslu Himalayas with a view of Damodar and Chulu peaks.

 

The climb to Himlung Himal takes a minimum of ten days, due to its technical sections on route to the summit. From the base camp setting more than three high camps at 5,450 m, 6, 000 m, and 6, 350 m. Which will make the climb more approachable with an easy assist to reach on top of the summit of Himlung Himal.

Himlung Himal Climbing, the adventure starts with an interesting drive from Kathmandu towards Nepal Mid-West around low farm areas of Lamjung district.

 

The journey continues following Masrsyangdi River past Besisar, the headquarter town of Lamjung area as the drive leads to cooler hills. Finally reaching our starting point of the trek at Dharapani village, within Manang district, as well as on route to Manaslu valley. Entering into a river gorge covered in a lush green forest of tall rhododendron and pine trees. As walk heads further reaching a wide-open valley at Phu village where our adventure leads to our final destination.

 

Exploring Phu village of great cultural interest and its old monasteries, then towards our final highlight climb to Himlung Himal. For the climb base camp is established around complete mountain wilderness enclosed by an array of towering peaks. From the base camp moving to a high camp with few more camps to make the climb safe and successful.

 

Reserved ten days from high camp, which is necessary to check the route and making a safe and approachable path. From the last higher camp weather permitting, then heading towards our final adrenaline adventure to the summit of Himlung Himal.

 

After a jubilant moment reaching our target on top of Himlung Himal, enjoy a mind-blowing panorama of surrounding giant peaks. Feeling on top of the world, then make a safe descent back to base camp, after a great successful ascent.

 

Clearing the base camp, and then on the same scenic route back towards the popular main trail to Dharapani. From this nice lovely village spending the last overnight stop around Manang area, an exciting drive back to Kathmandu.

Day 02:          Kathmandu for climbing briefing and preparations.

Day 04:          Trek to Koto 2,640 m near Chame town – 05 hrs.

Day 05:          Trek to Meta 3,560 m past Dharmasala – 06 hrs.
Day 06:          Trek to Kyang 3,020 m – 05 hours.

Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, received by our guides and staff for short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city.

Checking your lovely room, and after a refreshing rest join with other members of
Himlung Chuli Climb. Our guide or group leader brief you about the treks, do’s and don’ts, local culture, as well camping, foods and of lodges, camping on route trek.

A full good information which will help to enjoy your adventure with us, followed with welcome group dinner in a Nepalese restaurant with folk-culture program as entertainment while you enjoy the dinner.

Morning after breakfast at given time, our city guide will meet for interesting sightseeing of best world heritage sites around Kathmandu.

Tour includes old Durbar (royal palace and courtyard) square, with Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess). Visit famous Nepal landmark Swayambhunath Stupa a 2,500 years old, a Buddhist Stupa with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Afternoon tour of holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath and visit Bouddhanath, Asia’s largest Stupa with four cardinals eyes of Buddha surrounded with prayer wheels and small market, this place is also known as Little Tibet due to strong Tibetan influence.

After an exciting day tour back to hotel for Nar-Phu & Himlung Chuli trek and climb, preparation with last minute briefing from your leader and guide.

Start the morning with long exciting drive to Dharapani our starting point of the adventure to Nar-Phu and Upper Mustang, starts with pleasant downhill through tree lines to Tilje village, a nice spot by the raging Masrsyangdi River, having short rest or possible for lunch stop, then climb on crossing a suspension bridge to a large and nice lovely Dharapani village.
This village located on the junction of famous, popular Annapurna Circuit trail and route of Manaslu. Dharapani village where motorable road has reached from Besisar town as far to Manang village.

From Dharapani walk into a nice rhododendron and pine forest past villages of Bagarchap and Danque a place with apple orchard on the backyard, then route leads to a steep climb reaching Timang village for lunch stop facing views of
Mt. Manaslu and Lamjung Himal. From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto for overnight stop, located close to Chame town, a large and major town and a headquarter of Manang district.

Morning from Koto village our route diverts north on leaving Annapurna circuit trail for a week, as climb leads towards Nar & Phu villages. Located on the hidden area of Manang and beyond Annapurna Himalaya which is on route to Tibet border. Walking leads you to wilderness within the country where herd of blue sheep and snow leopard and other wild-life often spotted on walks.

Trek leads into narrow valley covered in pines and rhododendron trees, then reach a nice pasture fields with few huts and shades of Yak herder.
The area around the gorge blocked by high Pisang Peak and Kang-guru Himal, walk continues following Nar-Phu River upstream to reach Dharmasala a small farm village for refreshing stops. After a short rest walk further for an hour to Meta for overnight halt a sleepy small farm village.

Start the morning heading north to Phu village, one of isolated and remote country beyond the main villages of Manang valley. The area similar to Tibetan landscapes dry and arid. On walks around this area chances of spotting some wildlife like Blue Sheep’s, Musk deer’s and other wild animals if lucky might see a glimpse of snow leopard. Walk then ends on reaching at Kyang for overnight stop after an interesting day. Kyang with dozen of Tibetan style houses serves as lodge and restaurants with impressive Buddhist culture.

Today adventure leads to our next destination at Phu village, morning walk follows Phu River upstream for some time, and then descend with climb to enter a river gorge as climb continues to reach a wide glacial valley at Phu village of strong Tibetan influence and culture with similar tradition of Buddhist religion.

Enjoy a rest day at Phu village, a perfect place for another acclimatization day as well to explore around impressive village. Visit the old Tashi-Khang, Samdu Choling Monastery with views of Kyuchi waterfalls. Phu Village with about 30 houses for 100 to 150 local inhabitants.

From Phu village with enjoyable time, walk follows towards our main destination to establish base camp for the climb to Himlung Himal. A short day walk of few hours towards our campsite at the base of Himlung Himal.
Enjoy the complete wilderness, located far and remote and well hidden from rest of the world. Here our expert guide will instruct and brief regarding the climb and skills required for upcoming days to reach the summit of Himlung Himal.

A full day rest day for acclimatization and full preparation for the climb, our climbing guide and leader will provide instruction on climbing techniques, sharing their knowledge to make this climb a great success.

On leaving the base camp carrying only necessary gear for the climb, climb further within the dry and barren country. As walk continues for few hours with steep climb over moraine of rock and ice, and finding a suitable spot to set our high camp. Afternoon full preparation for the climb as well checking equipment and learning to use, where our guide will instruct the members regarding the climbing equipment required for the summit bid.

We have reserved full Ten days for the climb from High Camp that includes descent to base camp, for few days busy ferrying camping and foods to highest camps. While our guides will be busy in making the most accessible route to the summit of Himlung Himal.
After full preparation and getting well organized, our guide will check the weather report, and then finalize the day to reach the summit.
The main climbing day to the top, after setting Camp-I at 6,000 m / 19,685 feet high and Camp-II above 6,350 m /20,833 feet is set on the Southern East ridge, from here some members will need oxygen support on reaching the summit.
After spending time for some days ferrying the gear and climb up and down to support acclimatization. Our leader and head guide will fix the day of actual summit bid, depending upon weather permitting.
From the last high camp, climb leads to few technical section, where all member will be in fixed ropes all the way to summit top. On reaching Himlung Himal top, enjoy stupendous views of surrounding scenery of mountain range. Spending less than an hour on top, descend to base camp going down can be challenging sometimes, like low level atmospheric pressure after being in high altitude for some days. Descent is made with care and then enjoy the overnight at base camp after a long days of climbing.

At base camp free day for cleaning garbage and packing gears leaving nothing except your footprint, Nepal Himalaya gets thousands of trekkers and climbers every year. It is a great responsibility to keep the pristine country as it were before, most of the garbage has to be carried to designated disposal sites on route Koto or Dharapani villages.

After clearing the camp clean and tidy as it was, then retrace the trek back on same route with downhill to Phu valley and village for overnight stop.

Today heading and losing more altitude on downhill path with chances of spotting some wildlife like Blue Sheep and Himalayan Thar, as the walk descend downstream at Phu Khola and all the way to Kyang for overnight stop, with enough time in the afternoon for short hike around.

An easy downhill with few short up and then on leaving the high Phu valley and Himlung Himal area, walk leads back into river gorge within tall trees and green vegetation. As route leads to slow descent to Dharmasala, a small settlement with few simple lodge for overnight stop.

From Dharmasala leaving Phu and restricted area, as morning walk leads to Koto following the deep gorge, as altitude drops with change in vegetation’s then reaching at Koto village for overnight stop.

Morning from Koto on pleasant downhill to Dharapani village following a scenic trail with climb to Timang village, enjoy view of Mt. Manaslu 8,163 m /26, 781 feet, from Timang few hour walk through woodland to Dharapani for last overnight stop around Manang district.

After a wonderful time around Manang board in a local vehicle after having a good breakfast, as drive leads downhill past farm villages of Tal, Chamje and Jagat village and then down to low warm farm at Syange. Follow the Masrsyangdi River all the way to Besisar town, from here onward on good road towards the main busy highway. As drive follows Trisuli River for few hour and then on winding uphill to enter Kathmandu valley, on arrival in the hub of Kathmandu city check into your hotel, after a long interesting drive.

Free day in Kathmandu, after a long hard adventure climb on Himlung Himal enjoy the day at leisure, as well to hand over the climbing report to respective Government department. Rest of the day free for individual activities.

Last day in Nepal as per your international flight time, our staff and guide transfer you to the airport for homeward bound. After a great time and adventure around Nar-Phu & Himlung Chuli Climb.

Phu. Where a special permit is also required to enter the forbidden areas of Nar-
Phu and for Himlung Himal Climb.

05: When is the best time for Himlung Himal Climb?

Late spring to pre-summer is the best time from mid-March to early June when days
are much warmer with longer sunlight hours. Cold in the morning and in shades
as well from late afternoon till night time. Cane expects snowfall sometimes
during the trek and climb.
The next best time is autumn/fall around September and October months, most
days are bright and clear. But shorter days due to sun-light hours, are probably the best

time for trek and climbing, although cold months. The morning and night times are
much colder, can expect snowfall sometimes.
