Best seasons for Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb:                              

The best time for this wonderful adventure is in the spring and autumn seasons, from March to May, and autumn/fall begins from September to November months.

Springtime from March to May will be much lively with wildflowers in seasonal bloom, especially the magnolia and rhododendrons the national flower of Nepal.

March to May fine clear day most of the time, with longer sun-light hours but can get overcast in the late afternoon with chances of snow sometimes on high altitude areas as well on passes. Autumn / Falls another best time for this trek with a fine clear day for views and walks. But days are shorter with sun-light hours, morning, late afternoon, and nighttime temperatures drop to freezing cold around the higher region with the bright starry night sky. Chances of snow on trails as well on passes.

Religion and Culture:

North Mid-West Nepal around Manang and Mustang districts populated by Bhotia and Manang people the mountain tribes. The native around high Manang and Mustang follows strong Buddhism religion of age-old culture similar to their predecessors Tibetan, on this trek will notice traditionally built houses, where every home is adorned with Buddhist prayer flags and religious monuments.

On this trek beyond Dharapani village, coming across rows of prayer walls, spinning and wheeled prayer with Buddhist stupas, where walking clockwise will be the right way to respect the local culture as well visit interesting monasteries.

Overview

Chulu East Peak is listed in NMA (Nepal Mountaineering Association) as Nepal’s highest trekking peak at 6,584 m / 21,601 feet. An adventure of a lifetime experience climbing high above scenic Manang valley towards towering Chulu East Peak.

 

Chulu range with a group of satellite peaks that includes Chulu East, West, the Middle to Chulu Far East peaks. Located north of Manang valley close to Damodar Himal and Pisang Peak, away and off from the main Annapurna Circuit route.

 

The adventure takes you far from human settlements and villages towards complete isolation into the mountainous wilderness of ice and glaciers.

 

Ascent to Chulu East summit, the grade is PD + means ‘Per Difficule’ as per French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification. The route to the summit is a straightforward climb encountering few technical difficulties, which will be taken care of by our guide. Fixing ropes and making it possible approach with enough safety measures to the top as well on descend. All trekkers should be well equipped with proper climbing gear to overcome some challenging sections on route to the summit.

 

The PD+ grade describes as an enjoyable climb encountering ice and glaciers with some vertical ups to reach the summit.

 

Chulu East Peak Trek and Climb starts with an exciting drive from Kathmandu to Nepal Mid-West around Lamjung and Manang area. After a long interesting drive, a walk begins from nice Dharapani village heading towards our destination Chulu East Peak base camp. An exciting trek following a pleasant scenic trail into a cool shade of forest-lined with tall pine and rhododendron trees.

 

The walk takes you to Chame a large town and headquarters of Manang district, an interesting place to witness local culture. The adventure continues to enter scenic Manang valley at Pisang village, from here our route diverts from the main trail. Leaving the popular Annapurna circuit trail, heading towards wild mountainous country, where tree lines drop for arid and barren terrain.

 

The last and only human settlement is Julu, a small village raising livestock Yak and other cattle. From this isolated quant village heading straight towards the base of Chulu East Peak. Hidden in the corner of Chulu West and Mid Chulu within a rocky moraine area with some snow and glaciers.

 

Having time for acclimatization with preparation and practice exercise as well to study an approachable route. The morning starts following our lead guide, the route leads to vigorous and strenuous climb then reaching on top.

 

From the summit of Chulu East Peak, feeling high on top of the world facing a spectacular panorama of mountains range. Overlooking views of Chulu’s, Damodar Himal with Pisang peak and Annapurna Himalaya, as far towards Manaslu and Nar Phu peaks.

 

After an exciting adventure achieving our goal, the next adventure leads to Thorang-La Pass, as walk heads down to Manang valley. Walk into a nice lovely main village of Manang adorned with Buddhist religious monuments.

Manang is an interesting village, situated on a scenic valley surrounded by an array of Snow Mountain ranges. After an enjoyable time at Manang and then head towards further west to cross over the high Thorang-La pass.

 

The last big climb of the adventure to accomplish our wonderful trekking, as walk leads from High Camp of Thorang. Then reaching on top of Thorang-La at 5,416 m the highest spot on walks beside Chulu East Peak climb.

 

Enjoy the glorious panorama of Chulu, Damodar, and Annapurna Himalaya with the Dhaulagiri Himal range from a stunning viewpoint at Thorang-La.

 

Slowly our adventurous walks come to an end as the route leads to Muktinath, a famous pilgrimage place. Thousands of Hindu devotees and pilgrim visits for worship at Muktinath Temple, located within tranquil surroundings.

 

Spending overnight in a nice lodge at Muktinath nearby village, as the walk continues heading down to Kaligandaki River valley. Last day walk on a windswept valley to Jomsom, here our adventurous trek completes. Jomsom headquarter town of Mustang district, the hub of Thakali people the indigenous tribe of Kaligandaki valley interwoven to Buddhism.

 

The next morning a short swift flight from Jomsom to Pokhara, a beautiful scenic city blessed by natural beauty. Located on the foot of green hills with grand views of Annapurna Himalaya and Machhapuchare the famous Fist-Tail peak. Our wonderful adventure completes with a scenic flight to Kathmandu, after an overwhelming experience on Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb.

Itinerary

On arrival at Kathmandu and Nepal International Airport, received by our guides and staff for short transfer to your hotels in the hub of Kathmandu city.

Checking your lovely room, and after a refreshing rest join with other members of
Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb. Our guide or group leader brief you about the treks, do’s and don’ts, local culture, as well camping, foods and of lodges, camping on route trek.

A full good information which will help to enjoy your adventure with us, followed with welcome group dinner in a Nepalese restaurant with folk-culture program as entertainment while you enjoy the dinner.

Morning after breakfast at given time, our city guide will meet for interesting sightseeing of best world heritage sites around Kathmandu.

Tour includes old Durbar (royal palace and courtyard) square, with Temple of Kumari (Living young virgin Goddess). Visit famous Nepal landmark Swayambhunath Stupa a 2,500 years old, a Buddhist Stupa with all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. Afternoon tour of holy Hindu Temple of Pashupatinath and visit Bouddhanath, Asia’s largest Stupa with four cardinals eyes of Buddha surrounded with prayer wheels and small market, this place is also known as Little Tibet due to strong Tibetan influence.

After an exciting day tour back to hotel for trek and climb preparation with last minute briefing from your leader and guide.

Start the morning with long exciting drive to Dharapani our starting point of the adventure to Nar-Phu and Upper Mustang, starts with pleasant downhill through tree lines to Tilje village, a nice spot by the raging Masrsyangdi River, having short rest or possible for lunch stop, then climb on crossing a suspension bridge to a large and nice lovely Dharapani village.
This village located on the junction of famous, popular Annapurna Circuit trail and route of Manaslu. Dharapani village where motorable road has reached from Besisar town as far to Manang village.

From Dharapani walk into a nice rhododendron and pine forest past villages of Bagarchap and Danque a place with apple orchard on the backyard, then route leads to a steep climb reaching Timang village for lunch stop facing views of
Mt. Manaslu and Lamjung Himal. From Timang village few hours trek leads to Koto and then end the day walk on reaching Chame town for overnight halt,
Chame a large and major town and headquarter of Manang district.

After an enjoyable overnight at Chame, morning starts to cross Masrsyangdi River following a pleasant trail within cool shade of lovely forest of tall pine and rhododendron trees.
As walk continues to Bhratang village, and then over a bridge with short climb to a ridge at Dukari Pokhari a small settlement with few nice lodge and restaurants.
A nice lunch spot with views of Annapurna, Chulu and Pisang peaks.
After a refreshing stop, walk continues on downhill to a flat valley reaching at Pisang village for overnight stop. From here onward within Manang valley, the village located below stunning Pisang Peak.

Rest day in Pisang village for necessary acclimatization before heading towards higher terrain for Pisang Peak climb. A free day to relax and for short hike around, walk to upper Pisang village and visit the monastery, offers grand views of surrounding snow peaks. Rest of the day check the climbing gear as well our guide provides necessary information of the area, culture, religion and climbing skill required for the climb.

After a pleasant rest day at Pisang village, morning after breakfast leaving the village behind for sheer mountain wilderness. As route leads north above Manang valley, as tree lines gives away for short bushes around high Yak grazing pasture land, called Kharka. As walk continues to Ngawal a nice high village on route to Chulu East and towards Nar-Phu via high Kang-La Pass.
Walking on dry and arid terrain for some hours then reaching a remote sleepy village of Yak herder at Julu. Here our first camp is set enjoy the panorama of Chulu and Annapurna Himalayan peaks.

From Julu leaving the last human settlement towards complete wilderness into
pristine mountainous surroundings. On leaving Julu village walk on gradual faint
Yak herder path to reach a stream, wading through the icy cold stream then climb
towards a level ground close to Chulu East Peak, where our base camp is
established for the climb. Enjoy the afternoon with short hike around this
unexplored area of Upper Manang valley.

Not far from base camp, morning climb takes you right at the bottom of Chulu
East Peak, after packing necessary gear for the climb. On leaving the base camp
climb towards rocky moraine of rocks and ice then reach the high camp.

A necessary rest day for acclimatization as well for practice climb and checking
the climbing equipment. While our guide will check and scout the route of climb
and will fix ropes and snow bar on necessary technical sections of the climb to the
summit of Chulu East.

Start the climb early morning before dawn, follow our lead guide towards rocks
and snowy ledge, as climb progress encountering few technical sections where
guide will support all members safely on fixed ropes all the way to the summit of
Chulu East Peak. After final push to the top, relax and enjoy breathtaking
panorama of giant peaks that surrounds the summit. Enjoy dramatic views of all
Chulu peaks, Damodar Himal in the north with Annapurna Himalaya toward south
and as far to Thorang-La Pass in the west direction.
After a great tough morning with exciting climb to the summit of Chulu East Peak,
return on the same safe route back to high camp, and then on gradual path to
base camp.

We have reserved an extra day as contingency in case of unfavorable weather condition, or to adjust this day to maintain itinerary days taking care of client’s health and fitness as well. If this spare day not used as per our standard itinerary our guide / leader will use this extra day on return trek to Manang or on route to Jomsom, making the day shorter with enjoyable walks.

Morning after breakfast pack all gear and clean the base camp, an easy down hill
walk to Julu village, and then head further for few hours then finding the right
good spot close to a stream to set up the last camp before reaching Manang
village.

Enjoy leisure morning facing views of Pisang and Chulu peaks with
Annapurna IV and II, after breakfast start the morning walk downhill to Hongde, a
village with a small airstrip. From here walk on nice level path to Manang village,
an hour before Manang visit an old Braga monastery an interesting place
enriched with old relics of Buddha and famous gurus.

From the Monastery enjoy views of Annapurna and Chulu Himal range. From here
short walk to main Manang village for overnight stop. Afternoon at leisure or tour
of the village, where most houses are built in Tibetan tradition, the local native of
Manang migrated from Tibet more than 400 years back, as you can notice colorful
culture and custom similar to Tibetans.

From Khangsar back on the main trail towards Thorang-La, as walk leads to Ghunsang a small settlement, where route of Manang village joins.
Adventure continues on scenic uphill path, facing view of high snow-capped peaks then end the walk on reaching at Yak Kharka for overnight stop.

A short day walk, morning starts on pleasant path to Ledar a place with good lodges. From here on gradual winding trail, then down to a stream with short climb above a stream, as walk continues on gentle path to Thorang Phedi.
Phedi, bottom of the pass or a hill, stopping here for short rest and then end the day with an hour steep climb to Thorang High Camp for lunch and overnight halt.

Today the final big day of the adventure, start the morning having early breakfast walk begins on level winding path, and then climb on undulating winding up towards Thorang-La Pass, the highest spot of the adventure at 5,416 m / 17,700 feet high. The top festooned with thousands of Buddhist colorful prayer flags.
Enjoy the panorama of Chulu peaks with Damodar Himal, includes views of Annapurna Himalaya and Dhaulagiri Mountain range. From the top a long descend to the bottom at another Phedi within Mustang district.
Having short rest or enjoy lunch break at Phedi with few small tea-house and restaurants. Afternoon a slow gradual walk to Muktinath at the height of 3,800 m for overnight stop. A holy spot for all Hindus, the word Muktinath means
‘Liberation’ to be free from life cycle. At Muktinath transfer into one of its nice lodge with time for short tour of Muktinath holy complex, facing excellent views of Tilicho, Nilgiri and Dhaulagiri mountain range.

Last day and short walk of the adventure to Jomsom town, morning walk leads downhill to a flat plain of Kaligandaki River valley, as walk continues on a river bed then ending our trek at Jomsom. A big town with many excellent lodge, hotels and inns for overnight stop with fancy restaurants and fresh bakeries.

Morning a short walk to Jomsom airport for scenic short flight to reach at beautiful Pokhara, during air fantastic views of Dhaulagiri and Annapurna Himalayan peaks, as the aircraft lands at Pokhara. Pokhara one of the most sought touristic destinations in all Himalaya, a picturesque city overlooking views of massive Annapurna Himalaya with famous and magnificent Machhapuchare Himal 'Fish Tail'. From the airport a short drive to reach hotels by serene Phewa Lake side, with time to explore beautiful Pokhara.

Morning catching last views of Annapurna Himalaya with majestic Machhapuchare Himal or Fish Tail, and then transfer to Pokhara airport for smooth short flight to Kathmandu. Back within the hustle and bustle city life of Kathmandu after a great adventure and wonderful experience on Chulu East Peak Trek & Climb. 01: Is Chulu East a difficult climb than other trekking peaks?

Chulu East at 6, 584 m / 21, 601 feet considered as one of the highest trekking
Peaks after Mera Peak of Khumbu. The climbing grade is PD + ('Per Difficule') used
as international standard from French and Swiss Alpine Climbing Classification.
This means Per Difficult, straightforward climb encountering few technical
sections to reach the summit. It is not hard and difficult, with proper climbing
gear and the right attitude can climb Chulu East taking two days from the base camp.

02: Where is Chulu East Peak and where do we end the trek and climb?

Jomsom to beautiful city in Pokhara before heading back to Kathmandu.

03: What types of accommodation and food to expect on this trek and climb?

camping crew, guides, and strong porters to carry all camping equipment.

04: What happens if someone gets very sick in between the trek and climb?

Depending upon the seriousness of the patient, for minor wounds and sickness,
having self-treatment with the medicines carried by the clients and from Brown
Bear Trail. For critical conditions, the victim should be brought and evacuated to
a safe lower place to the nearest medical post or hospital by the fastest means of
transportation. Some situation requires Helicopter service the fastest means to
bring the sick to Kathmandu for further treatment.

05: Is there any facilities to charge our electronic gadgets?

On leaving major villages at Bedding and Na settlement, from then on in the complete
wilderness. Far from human settlements or villages till the Khumbu area at Thame is
reached. Walking beyond main villages. There will be no facilities available to
charge, electricity and trekkers need to carry portable solar power for
charging their electronic gadgets till Thame village is reached Lukla at the end
of the trek and climb.

06: Which is the best time for this wonderful adventure?
